Juvenile Crime Prevention Council

Description:

The NC Department of Public Safety's Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention partners with the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) to galvanize community leaders, locally and statewide, to reduce and prevent juvenile crime. JCPC supports prevention and intervention programs that are making a difference for young people and their communities. Programs are typically focused on youth with behavioral issues and/ or involved in the court system. Responsibilities of the JCPC include: 1. Review the needs of juveniles in the County who are at risk of delinquency or who have been adjudicated as undisciplined or delinquent; 2. Review the resources available to address those needs; 3. Prioritize community risk factors; 4. Increase public awareness of the causes of delinquency and strategies to reduce the problems; 5. Develop strategies to intervene, respond to, and treat the needs of juveniles at risk of delinquency; 6. Through a grant process, distribute North Carolina Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention funds to local programs and services that address the identified strategies.
